Shorinji Kempo was founded in Japan in 1947 and is a martial art that combines effective self-defense techniques with humanistic teachings.
Shorinji Kempo consists of hard elements (e.g., strikes, kicks) and soft elements (e.g., releases, throws), which are practiced individually and in pairs. This not only teaches the martial art but also develops self-confidence and individual development. Cooperation and mutual support are paramount during training.
Shorinji Kempo is internationally popular and has a vibrant, friendly community.
The essence of Shorinji Kempo:
Half for your own happiness,
half for the happiness of others
Basic goals of Shorinji Kempo
goshin rentan (self-defense skills), seishin shūyō (mental development) and kenkō sōshin (improvement of health).
Shorinji Kempo training can be divided into four parts:
kihon (basics), hokei (techniques), randori (application in free fighting) and embu (combination of techniques).
soft methods such as shuhō (defense methods), nuki waza (release techniques), nage waza (throwing techniques) and katame waza (holding techniques)
especially acupressure massages and simple forms of bone correction
Basic principles of Shorinji Kempo
ken zen ichinyo (unity of body & mind), riki ai funi (strength & love in harmony), shushu kōjū (defense is primary, attack secondary), fusatsu katsujin (not killing, but helping people), gōjū ittai (hard & soft are one), kumite shutai (training in pairs is essential)
